Bulimia nervosa is one of the most common eating and feeding disorders which is more prevalent in women and has a significant destructive impact on their health and quality of life. since description of this disorder in 1979, various medical and psychological treatments have been developed to improve its symptoms. CBT has been considerd as treatment of choice for bulimia. However research findings reported high rates of relaps up to 50% as well as a high percentage of dropout up to 28% in CBT. Recently a large attention has been focused on the role of emotion dysregulation in development of bulimia and accordingly dialectical behaviour therapy has been adapted for it. This research investigates the main approaches in explaining and treating this disorder and by exploring the role of emotion dysregulation in development of BN, explains the reason and mechanisms involved in effectiveness of DBT for BN.
