Abstract:   (832 Views)

Patients with cancer are stressful and anxious just as they know about their disease, so their

mental  health  would  be  threatened.  The  stress  is  continuing  also  during  the  treatment,  and

many of them turn to sedative drugs. Music therapy is a technique used to reduce the stresses

of the patient and is helpful in most cases. In this research, Quran’s sound as a kind of music

has  been  used  for  patients  with  cancer  in  order  to  investigate  its  effectiveness  on  the

happiness.  The  methodology  of  the  research  is experimental,  and  was  performed  as

intervention  on  45  women  with  breast  cancer  and  cervical  cancer  who  were  in  the  first  or

second step of  chemotherapy. They  were  divided into  3  groups  of  15 by random. The  first

group listened to Quran’s sound in Tartil (intonation) style of JavadPanahi for 30 minutes in

steps  of  chemotherapy. The second group listened to Quran’s sound in Tahdir style of

MoatazAghaie  in  the  same  way.  And  the  third  group was  under  control  and  has  no

intervention during 3 steps. After and before the experiment, oxford happiness questionnaire

was  filled  by  respondents.  One  month  after  experiment,  the  questionnaire  was  filled  by

patients  again  for  reassessment.  The  findings  show  that  there  is  a  significant  difference

between experiment  and  control  groups  in  terms  of  happiness  variable. But  there  was  no

significant  difference  between  2  groups  of  Tartil  and  Tahdir,  and  both  of  them  increased

happiness  by  the  same  rate. The  results  of  the  research  showed  that  each  styles  of  Quran’s

sound  with  different  readers  can  increase  the  happiness  of  patients  with cancer. Therefore,

Quran’s sound can be used as a soothing  method  during  chemotherapy  of patients  with

cancer.
