Abstract

The present study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of emotionally focused couple therapy on improving marital satisfaction and reduction tendency to extramarital relationships women affected by domestic violence. The research design was based on a semi-experimental with pre-test-post-test approach and control group. The statistical population consisted of all women affected by domestic violence in Mashhad cities in 2018. Among them, 30 people have been selected in Convenience Sampling and randomly being assigned into two experimental and controls groups. The experimental group received an emotional couple therapy program in 8 sessions of 60 minutes for one month and, the control group didn't receive the intervention. Enrich Marital Satisfaction Scale (Olson, 1989), and Extramarital Relationships Questionnaire (ERQ) (Shirdel, 2007) were used in the pretest and posttest for collecting information. Data were analyzed using multivariable analysis of variance. The results of the research showed that after controlling the effect of pre-test, there was a significant difference between the two groups in the post-test in marital satisfaction and reduction tendency to extramarital relationships. According to the findings of the research, it can be stated that emotionally focused couple therapy to increase satisfaction and reduced tendency to extramarital relationships women affected by domestic violence. Therefore, emotionally concentrated couple therapy can be considered an excellent way to improve couples' conflicts and sexual problems.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the role of marital disillusionment in attitudes toward extramarital relationships with the moderating role of emotional intelligence. This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on married people referring to psychological and counseling centers in Tehran in 2019. 250 people were selected by cluster sampling method from three centers. In order to collect data, The population information form, Attitude towards Infidelity Scale (Whatley, 2008), Marital Disillusionment scale (Niehuis and Bartell, 2006), and Emotional Quotient Inventory (Bar-on, 1997) were used. Data analysis was performed in SPSS software version 19 using the Pearson correlation coefficient and the linear regression. The results showed that attitudes toward extramarital relationships were positively related to marital disillusionment and negatively related to emotional intelligence (P<0.05). Also, there is a negative and significant relationship between emotional intelligence and marital disillusionment (P<0.05). The results of the regression analysis showed that marital disillusionment (β=0.296) and emotional intelligence (β=-0.304)  explained 0.24 of the changes in attitudes toward extramarital relationships. But emotional intelligence can not have a moderating effect.   According to the results of the present study, in counseling and educating couples with the aim of reducing extramarital relationships, it is necessary to pay attention to strategies to reduce marital disillusionment and increase emotional intelligence.

Abstract

The purpose of the present study, in order to analyze the causes of the context and the consequences of extramarital relationships (marital infidelity) from the perspective of married youth in Kermanshah. The research method was a qualitative methodological approach using the grounded theory method. The Statistical Society of all married youth was involved in Kermanshah's transcendental relations in 2019. Based on the theoretical sampling method, 22 people (11 men and 11 women) participated in the study using in-depth and semi-structured interview techniques. The results showed that two nuclear categories in the areas of individual and interpersonal issues, and community issues, were obtained as underlying factors. In the field of individual and interpersonal issues; Individualism, past issues, moral and religious weakness, failure to meet sexual needs, failure to meet emotional and psychological needs, verbal, physical, and sexual violence, and lack of control over life have all been influential. In the field of community issues; Environmental, social and political issues, poverty and economic problems, addiction, and media war were influential. Overall, the findings of this study showed that sexual and emotional needs, poverty, and economic problems, along with addiction were the main causes of infidelity from the perspective of both men and women. The consequences of extramarital relationships include interpersonal problems between couples, reduction in personal acts, granted isolation, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, suicide, and murder. Researchers and policymakers in the field of marriage and family can reduce the likelihood of inclination to extramarital relationships by eliminating the causes of couples' tendency to extramarital relationships and strengthening their deterrents and functional environment, and providing the basis for the stability of the coupled system and family.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the mediating role of emotional schemas in the relationship between attachment styles and childhood trauma with a tendency to extramarital relationships. The research method was descriptive-correlational. The statistical population of the present study consisted of all married students of Guilan University in the academic year 1399-1400, which included 2061 people, and 246 of them entered the study by the available sampling method. Research instruments included the Revised Adult Attachment Scale (RAAS, Collins and Reid, 1996), abbreviated childhood trauma Questionnaire (CTQ, Bernstein et al, 2003), Attitudes Towards Extramarital Relationships Scale (ATERS, Watley, 2006), and Emotional Schemas Scale (LESS, Leahy, 2002). A structural equation modeling method in the form of path analysis was used for data analysis. The results showed that the proposed research model has a good fit. Bootstrap results also showed that the indirect path of secure attachment style with a tendency towards extramarital relationships through adaptive and maladaptive emotional schemas was significant (P<0/05). The indirect path of ambivalent-anxious attachment style with a tendency towards extramarital relationships through adaptive and maladaptive emotional schemas was significant (P<0/01). The indirect path of childhood trauma with a tendency towards extramarital relationships through adaptive emotional schemas was significant (P<0/05). From the above findings, it can be concluded that emotional schemas play a mediating role between attachment styles and childhood trauma with a tendency towards extramarital relationships,  and it is necessary to pay attention to these factors in prevention and counseling programs.

Abstract

The aim of the current research was to investigate the structural relationships of dark personality structure, emotional inhibition with extramarital relationships with the mediation of attitude towards marital commitment among women and men with extramarital relationships. The design of the current research was of a descriptive-correlation type. The statistical population of the research included all the couples who were referred to the counseling centers of Miandoab City in 2021. Among them, 280 people were selected using the purposeful sampling method and they completed the Dark Triad Personality Test (SD-3, Jenson &Webster, 2010) Emotional Control Questionnaire (ECQ, Roger &Nashover, 1987), Marital Infidelity Questionnaire (MIQ, Marami &Khademi, 2012) Dimensions of Commitment Inventory (DCI, Adams & Jones, 1997). Data analysis using the structural equation modeling method showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between dark personality traits and attitudes towards infidelity at the level of 0.01, as well as between emotional control and marital commitment and attitudes towards infidelity at the level of 0.01. There is a negative and significant relationship. The results of the research showed that the dark personality structure and emotional inhibition are related to the mediation of attitude towards marital commitment with extramarital relationships. The findings of this research, in addition to supporting the hypothetical model for extramarital relations, provide a suitable model for its etiology, and finally, the model has a good fit.

Abstract

The present study was conducted to provide a structural model of extramarital relationships based on cognitive schemas and alexithymia with the mediation of family function in Gonbad-e Kavus city. The research method was a descriptive correlation of the path analysis type. The statistical population consisted of married men and women who were referred to counseling centers in Gonbadkavus City in 2022, from which 200 people were selected through available sampling. The research tools include the Attitudes Toward Infidelity Scale (ATIS) (Whatley, 2008), the Young Schematic Questionnaire (YSQ) (Yang, 2005), the Toronto Ataxia Scale (TAS-20) (Bagby et al., 1994) and the McMaster Family Assessment Device (FAD-60) (Epstein et al., 1950). The results of the path analysis indicated the optimal fit of the model. The results of the path analysis indicated the optimal fit of the model. The findings showed that the direct effect of none of the cognitive schemas on extramarital relationships was insignificant. However, the other orientation schema indirectly and significantly affects extramarital relations by mediating family function (P<0.01). Emotional dyslexia significantly affects extramarital relationships, both directly and indirectly (P<0.01). The dimensions of identifying, expressing, and introspection have a negative and significant indirect effect on extramarital relationships through the mediation of family functioning (P<0.01). Therefore, it can be concluded that cognitive schemas indirectly affect extramarital relationships by mediating family functioning, but emotional dyslexia is directly and indirectly effective.

Abstract

The present study was conducted to predict the desire for extramarital relationships based on self-sacrificing behavior with the mediation of self-compassion in married women. The method of this research was descriptive-correlation and structural equation modeling. The statistical population of this research included all married women in Tehran in 2024. A sample of 300 people was selected purposefully and according to the criteria for entering and exiting the research. The research tools included the Marital Infidelity Scale (MIS) by Bashirpour et al. (2017), the Self-Sacrificing Behavior Perception Questionnaire (PSBM) by Harper and Figures (2008), and the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS) by Neff (2003). The research data was analyzed using the structural equation modeling method. The findings showed that the research model is a good fit. The mediating role of self-compassion in the relationship between self-sacrificing behavior and desire for extramarital relationships was confirmed (p<0.05). The intensity of the direct effect was equal to -0.194 and the intensity of the indirect effect was equal to -0.213, accordingly, the intensity of the total effect of selfless behavior on the desire for extramarital relations was 0.407. The findings showed that self-sacrificing behavior both directly and indirectly (with the mediation of self-compassion) affected the desire for extramarital relationships. Therefore, self-compassion can mediate the relationship between self-sacrificing behavior and the desire for extramarital relationships.
