Abstract:   (12 Views)

The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) on sleep problems, anxiety, and digestive symptoms in women with functional gastrointestinal disorders. The present study was a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest design and a control group. The statistical population included all women with complaints of gastrointestinal function who referred to internal medicine specialists in Qazvin in 1403. Among them, 24 people were purposefully selected and randomly placed into two experimental and control groups (12 people in each group).Intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy (10 60-minute weekly sessions) was provided individually to the experimental group. The Petersbaugh Sleep Quality Inventory (PSQI, 1989), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI, 1988), and Gastrointestinal Symptom Severity Scale (GSRS) were used to collect data. The findings showed that, after controlling for the pretest effect, there was a significant difference between the posttest mean of sleep problems, anxiety, and severity of gastrointestinal symptoms in the experimental and control groups at the level of (p<0.05). Intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy has led to improvements in sleep problems, reduced anxiety, and the severity of digestive symptoms in women with gastrointestinal dysfunction.دDynamic psychotherapy helps patients regulate their anxiety and experience their emotions in an appropriate way so that emotions do not become physical outbursts. Therefore, dynamic psychotherapy can be used to improve various aspects of the individual problems of patients with gastrointestinal dysfunction.
