Abstract: (67 Views)
This study investigated the relationship between the Dark Triad of personality and marital burnout, with emotion regulation as a mediating factor. The present study was a descriptive-correlational study of a path analysis type. The statistical population consisted of all married individuals in Tehran in 2023. A convenience sampling method was used to select a sample of 242 participants, who completed the questionnaires. The research instruments included the Marital Burnout Measure (CBM, Pines, 1996), the Dark Triad Dirty Dozen Scale (DTDDS, Johnson & Webster, 2010), and the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ, Gross & John, 2003). Data were analyzed using path analysis. The results of the path analysis indicated a good fit of the model. Findings revealed that the Dark Triad personality traits of Machiavellianism and narcissism were able to indirectly predict marital burnout through the dimensions of reappraisal and suppression in emotion regulation (p < 0.001). These results suggest that the Dark Triad of personality, considering the significant role of emotion regulation, can explain marital burnout among married individuals. Consequently, understanding these mechanisms can be effective in designing psychological interventions aimed at enhancing the quality of marital relationships.
