Abstract: (42 Views)
The present study aimed to compare the effectiveness of emotion-focused therapy and life therapy on adherence to treatment in coronary artery disease patients with anxiety syndrome. The present study was a quasi-experimental study with a pre-test-post-test design and a control group with a three-month follow-up period. The statistical population of this study included all female patients with coronary artery disease with anxiety syndrome in Babol city in 2024. 45 people were selected by a non-random sampling method from the cardiac ward of Mehregan Hospital in Babol city and were randomly assigned to three groups: experimental 1 (15 people), experimental 2 (15 people), and control (15 people). Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI; Beck et al., 1993) and Moriski Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS; Moriski et al., 2008) were used to collect data. Emotion-focused therapy based on the Greenberg protocol and life therapy based on the Hassanzadeh protocol were presented in groups during 8 90-minute sessions. Data were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance. Pairwise comparison results showed that life therapy had a significantly greater effect on increasing adherence to treatment in coronary artery disease patients in the follow-up phase compared to emotion-focused therapy (P<0.05); however, both treatments were significantly more effective on adherence to treatment compared to the control group until the follow-up phase (P<0.05). Overall, it can be concluded that emotion-focused therapy and life therapy are two effective treatments for increasing treatment adherence, but life therapy had a greater effect over time.
