Abstract: (65 Views)
This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and mentalization-based therapy (MBT) on positive youth development in students with depressive symptoms. The present study was a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest design and a control group with a two-month follow-up period. The statistical population of the study included all female second-year high school students in Soumeh Sara city in 2024; 45 students were purposively selected and randomly assigned to three groups of 15. Each of the experimental groups received the intervention as a group during eight 90-minute sessions. Participants responded to the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II; Beck et al., 1996) and the Positive Youth Development Scale (PYD; Geldhof et al., 2014). Data were analyzed using analysis of variance with repeated measures. The findings showed that in the two intervention groups, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy and mentalization-based therapy, the scores from pre-test to post-test and follow-up of positive youth development significantly increased compared to the control group (P<0.05); The findings also showed that there was a significant difference between the two intervention groups at the follow-up stage (P<0.05). Overall, it can be concluded that mentalization-based therapy had a greater effect on increasing positive youth development in students with depressive symptoms than eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy.
