Abstract:   (213 Views)
This research aimed to investigate the psychometric properties of the Persian version of the Pet Attachment Questionnaire. The research was applied in purpose and correlational in method. The statistical population included individuals who owned a pet (dog or cat) and veterinary clinics in the northern and western districts of Tehran between July and November 2024. Using convenience sampling, 428 individuals were recruited into the study and completed the questionnaires. The research instruments included the Pet Attachment Questionnaire (PAQ; Zilcha-Mano et al., 2011), the Adult Attachment Inventory (AAI; Hazan & Shaver, 1987), the Quality of Relationships Inventory (QRI; Pierce et al., 1994), and the Perceived Stress Reactivity Scale (PSRS; Schulz et al., 2011). Data were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis, Cronbach’s alpha, and Pearson correlation coefficients. The results of the confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the model had a good fit. The instrument showed a positive correlation with insecure attachment style and emotional relationship quality, and a significant negative relationship with secure attachment style. It was also positively correlated with perceived stress, indicating convergent and divergent validity of the instrument (P<0.001). Reliability was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha, with all obtained coefficients above 0.70, indicating satisfactory reliability. Overall, the Persian version of the Pet Attachment Questionnaire possesses appropriate psychometric properties and can be used as a valid tool in psychological research, clinical studies, and fields related to human–animal interactions.
