Abstract:   (130 Views)
The expansion of cyberspace has confronted patterns of emotional and ethical interaction within married life with novel challenges. The present study aimed to elucidate the lived experiences of married men regarding “ethical fidelity in cyberspace” and the role of media literacy in its formation and maintenance. This qualitative study employed an interpretive phenomenological approach and was conducted through semi-structured interviews with nine married men. Data analysis resulted in the identification of four major thematic domains: critical understanding of the nature of online interactions, conscious ethical boundary-setting in online relationships, internal self-monitoring in response to gradually emerging inclinations, and the redefinition of marital commitment based on responsibility and communicative transparency. The findings indicated that ethical fidelity in the digital lifeworld is not experienced as a static or discrete phenomenon; rather, it is a gradual, multidimensional, and evolving process that begins with interpretive awareness of cyberspace and culminates in individual and relational ethical action. In this context, media literacy extends beyond a mere technical skill and functions as an ethical-interpretive mechanism that enables married men to recognize potentially compromising situations at an earlier stage, regulate their online behavior, and safeguard their marital commitment through self-monitoring and communicative transparency. The findings underscore the importance of promoting media literacy education through an ethics-oriented and family-centered approach to strengthening the foundations of family life.
