Abstract
The COVID-19 epidemic has posed serious challenges to health care worldwide and led to numerous changes in obstetric and gynecological care guidelines. This study aims to investigate women's lived experiences of childbearing during the COVID-19 epidemic. The present study was a qualitative study using descriptive phenomenology. Participants in the study comprised 11 women who had experienced pregnancy and childbirth during the coronavirus outbreak. The researcher selected participants using a purposive sampling method based on inclusion and exclusion criteria and continued until data saturation. Data collection was done using semi-structured and in-depth interviews, and after recording each interview, the extracted content was transcribed word by word. Data coding ran in parallel with data collection and it was analyzed using the Colaizzi method (seven steps). In total, among the 11 interviews, 358 initial codes, 43 concepts, 9 sub-themes, and 2 main themes were obtained. Based on the results of this study, the COVID-19 epidemic had a significant potential to cause anxiety, fear, and psychological distress, and this group of women faced many difficulties in adapting to these conditions.
