Abstract

The aim of the present study was to determine the effectiveness of Minuchin's structural family therapy on chronic anxiety and differentiation in patients with psychosomatic disorders. The present study was conducted by quasi-experimental method with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The statistical population of this study consisted of all patients with three types of psychiatric disorders including migraine, gastrointestinal disorders, and cardiovascular disorders referred to Shariati Hospital and Tehran Heart Center in 2020, of which 30 people Eligible inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected by available sampling method and randomly assigned to the two groups. All of them completed Skowron and Friedlander's and Beck Anxiety Inventory and the short form of differentiation in the pre-test and post-test stages. The experimental group was exposed to Minochin structural family therapy intervention. Finally, after data collection, a multivariate analysis of covariance was used to analyze the data using SPSSV19 software. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the two groups in both variables of anxiety and differentiation and all their components (P<0.01). This means that Minochin structural family therapy intervention reduced anxiety and increased differentiation in the experimental group. Finally, it can be said that Minochin structural family therapy is a suitable method for treating chronic anxiety and differentiation of psychiatric patients.
