Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to determine the effectiveness of dialectical behavior therapy on aggression, self-criticism, and self-injurious behaviors of 18-12-year-olds with bipolar disorder. The research method was semi-experimental with a pre-test-post-test design and a control group. The statistical population of 18-12-year-olds with bipolar disorder in 2022, 40 teenagers were selected from this population by targeted sampling from Imam Hossein Hospital in Tehran, Saadat Abad Clinic, and Qayim Shahr Clinic and based on structured clinical interviews. were selected and placed in two experimental and control groups (20 people for each group). To collect data from the aggression questionnaire (AQ, Bass and Perry, 1992), a self-injurious behavior questionnaire (ISAS, Klonsky and Glenn, 2009), and a self-criticism questionnaire (LOSC, Thompson and Zoraf, 2004) were used. The data analysis was done with the statistical method of multivariate covariance analysis. The results showed that by controlling the pre-test effect between the mean of self-injurious behaviors, aggression, and post-test self-criticism of the experimental group and there is evidence of a significant difference in the level (P<0.01). In fact, dialectical behavior therapy reduces aggression, self-criticism, and self-injurious behaviors in adolescents with bipolar disorder.

Abstract

The present study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment-based therapy on emotional instability and self-injurious behaviors of people with borderline personality disorder and substance abuse. This research was a semi-experimental study with the pre-test-post-test method and a control group. the statistical population was all addicts living in three addiction treatment camps in Tabriz and Ahar in the spring of 2021. First, Milon's multi-axis questionnaire was administered and 30 people who had a score higher than 85 for borderline personality disorder were purposefully selected as the research sample and randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups. The data collection tool was Milon's MCMI-III Multiaxial Questionnaire (Milon, 1987), SHI self-injurious behaviors questionnaire (Sanson et al., 1998), and EIS emotional instability scale (Malachich and Goldberg, 2007). The experimental group received two ACT therapy sessions in 8 sessions of 90 minutes each week. The results of the research showed that by controlling the effect of the pre-test, there was a significant difference between the post-test average of self-injurious behaviors (f=59.513, p=0.001) and emotional instability (f=78.122, p=0.001) in the two experimental groups. And there is evidence of a significant difference. Based on this, it can be concluded that treatment based on acceptance and commitment is effective in self-harming behaviors and emotional instability.

Abstract

The present study was conducted to determine the mediating role of mental pain in the relationship between integrative self-knowledge and self-injurious behaviors in adolescents. The current descriptive-correlation research was of structural equation modeling type. The statistical population of this research included all students of the second secondary level in Tehran in the second semester of the academic year 2023. 419 people participated in this study using the available method and were administered the Orbach and Mikulincer Mental Pain Scale (OMMP; Orbach et al., 2003), the Integrative Self-Knowledge Scale (ISKS; Ghorbani et al., 2008) and the Inventory of Statements About Self-Injury (ISAS; Klonsky & Glenn, 2009) responded. Data analysis was done by structural equation modeling method. The results showed that the proposed model is a good fit. The results showed that the direct effect of integrative self-knowledge on self-injurious behaviors was negatively significant; On the other hand, mental pain had a positive direct effect on self-injurious behaviors. Also, the results showed that integrative self-knowledge had a negative direct effect on mental pain (P<0.05). The results of the bootstrap test showed that mental pain had a significant mediating role between integrative self-knowledge and self-injurious behaviors (P<0.05). The results of this study indicate that integrative self-knowledge affects self-injurious behaviors directly and through the mediation of mental pain.

Abstract

The present study was conducted to determine the mediating role of interpersonal sensitivity in the relationship between integrative self-knowledge and self-injurious behaviors in adolescents. The current descriptive-correlation research was of structural equation modeling type. The statistical population of this research included all students of the second secondary level in Tehran in the second semester of the academic year 2023. 419 people participated in this study using the available method and were administered the Inter Personal Sensitivity Measure (IPSM; Boyce & Parker, 1989), Orbach and Mikulincer Mental Pain Scale (OMMP; Orbach et al., 2003), the Integrative Self-Knowledge Scale (ISKS; Ghorbani et al., 2008) and the Inventory of Statements About Self-Injury (ISAS; Klonsky & Glenn, 2009) responded. Data analysis was done by structural equation modeling method. The results showed that the proposed model is a good fit. The results showed that the direct effect of integrative self-knowledge on self-injurious behaviors was negatively significant; On the other hand, interpersonal sensitivity had a positive direct effect on self-injurious behaviors. Also, the results showed that integrative self-knowledge had a negative direct effect on interpersonal sensitivity (P<0.05). The results of the bootstrap test showed that interpersonal sensitivity had a significant mediating role between integrative self-knowledge and self-injurious behaviors (P<0.05). The results of this study indicate that integrative self-knowledge affects self-injurious behaviors directly and through the mediation of interpersonal sensitivity.
