Abstract:   (251 Views)
This research was conducted to investigate the mediating role of mentalization in the relationship between attachment styles and interpersonal problems of divorcing couples. The current study was a descriptive-correlation type of structural equation modeling. The statistical population of the research was all the people undergoing divorce in Kerman city counseling centers in 2022 and 2023. Using the available sampling method, a sample of 270 people was selected and participated in the study. Research tools included: Interpersonal problems questionnaire (IPQ, Barkham & et al, 1996), revised adult attachment scale (RAAS, Collins, 1996), and mentalization questionnaire (MQ, Fonagy & et al, 1998). The data were analyzed using the structural equation analysis method. The structural equation analysis results indicated the model's appropriate fit. The findings showed that avoidant and anxious attachment styles were able to directly predict interpersonal problems (p<0.001). Also, attachment styles could indirectly predict couples' interpersonal problems through mentalization (p<0.001). These results show that attachment styles, considering the important role of mentalization, can explain couples' interpersonal problems, and it is necessary to pay attention to these factors in interaction with each other in programs to reduce couples' interpersonal problems.
