Abstract: (34 Views)
This research was conducted to investigate the mediating role of attachment behavior in marital relationships in the relationship between early maladaptive schemas and childhood trauma, with the desire for infidelity in married men. The current research was a descriptive-correlation type of path analysis. The study's statistical population was all married men in Tehran in 2024. A 377 sample was selected, and the survey was conducted using the available sampling method. Research tools included: The scale of marital infidelity (SMI, Bashirpour & et al, 2017), the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ, Bernstein & et al, 2003), the Short form of the Young Schema Questionnaire (YSQ-SF, Young, 1994) and The Brief Accessibility, Responsiveness, and Engagement Scale (BARE, Sandberg & et al, 2012). The data were analyzed using the path analysis method. The path analysis results indicated the model's appropriate fit. The findings indicated that sexual abuse directly predicted the desire for infidelity (p<0.001). Additionally, the domains of detachment and rejection, as well as other orientations, emotional abuse, emotional neglect, and physical neglect, indirectly predicted the desire for infidelity through attachment behaviors toward oneself and one's partner (p<0.001). These results show that primary maladaptive schemas and childhood trauma, considering the important role of attachment behavior, can explain the desire for infidelity in married men, and it is necessary to pay attention to these factors in interaction with each other in programs to reduce the desire for infidelity.
