Abstract: (22 Views)
The purpose of this study was to determine the Effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy on pain reduction and social Adequacy in patients with fibromyalgia syndrome. The research method was semi-experimental with a pre-tested and post-tested design control group. The statistical population of the research included patients who were referred to Dr. Cyrus Momenzadeh's subspecialty pain clinic from May 2023 to January 2024. The research sample consisted of 24 of these people who were selected by purposeful sampling and were randomly divided into two experimental and control groups. The tools of this research included the McGill Pain Questionnaire (MPQ, 2009) and the Buhrmester et al Social Adequacy Questionnaire (SAQ, 1998). The experimental group received 8 sessions of an acceptance and commitment therapy treatment. Data analysis was done by multivariate analysis of variance (MANCOVA). The findings showed that by controlling the pre-test effect, there was a significant difference at the 0.001 level between the post-test mean of pain intensity and social Adequacy in the two experimental and control groups. These results state that acceptance and commitment therapy is a suitable psychotherapy method to reduce pain intensity and improve social adequacy in patients with fibromyalgia syndrome.
