Abstract:   (177 Views)
This study aimed to investigate the sequential mediating role of cognitive fusion and experiential avoidance in the relationship between early maladaptive schemas and social anxiety symptoms in Iranian adults. The current basic research was a descriptive-correlation type and path analysis. The study population included all Iranian adults aged 18 to 30 in 2024, from which 512 participants were selected by convenience sampling. Research tools included: Social Phobia Inventory (SPIN, Connor et al, 2000), Young Schema Questionnaire-Short Form3 (YSQ-S3, Young, 2005), Cognitive Fusion Questionnaire (CFQ, Gillanders et al, 2014) and Acceptance & Action Questionnaire-II (AAQ-II, Bond et al, 2011). The data were analyzed using path analysis method. The findings showed that the schema domains of impaired autonomy & performance, disconnection & rejection and over-vigilance & inhibition indirectly predict social anxiety symptoms through cognitive fusion alone (p< 0.05). The results indicated the great fit of this model. These results show that cognitive fusion can explain the mechanism through which early maladaptive schemas predict social anxiety symptoms.  Therefore, it is possible to reduce social anxiety by intervention on cognitive fusion.
