Abstract: (105 Views)
The present research aimed to investigate the mediating role of impulsivity and resilience in the relationship between helicopter parenting and adolescents' psychological distress. The research methodology was descriptive-correlational of the structural equation modeling type. The statistical population consisted of male and female high school students in Rasht city during the academic year 2023-2024. Using a multi-stage cluster sampling method, 220 male and female students were selected. Data were collected using the Helicopter Parenting Scale (HPS; Lemoyne & Buchanan, 2011); the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale Version 11 (BIS-11; Patton et al, 1995), the Resilience Scale (CD-RISC; Connor & Davidson, 2003), and the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21; Lovibond and Lovibond, 1995). The results showed that the proposed model had a good fit. The results showed that helicopter parenting has a positive effect, resilience has a negative effect, and impulsivity has a positive effect on psychological distress (P<0.05). Also, helicopter parenting had a positive effect on impulsivity and a negative effect on resilience (P<0.05). The results of the Bootstraping Test showed that impulsivity and resilience played a mediating role between helicopter parenting and psychological distress (P<0.05). In general, it can be concluded that helicopter parenting directly and through the mediation of impulsivity and resilience affected the psychological distress of adolescents.
