Abstract: (92 Views)
This study aimed to investigate the mediating role of self-compassion deficiency in the relationship between attachment trauma and borderline personality disorder traits. The present research was a descriptive-correlational study of the structural equation modeling type. The statistical population included all university students in Tehran in the year 2023, from which 301 participants were selected through convenience sampling to complete the questionnaire. The instruments used in this research comprised the Borderline Personality Inventory (BPI, Leichsenring, 1999), the Adult Attachment Questionnaire (AAQ, Hazan & Shaver, 1987), and the Self-Compassion Scale Short Form (SCS-SF, Raes, 2011). The data were analyzed using structural equation methods. The results indicated a good fit of the model. The results revealed that insecure attachment styles could directly predict borderline personality disorder traits (p<0.001). Additionally, insecure attachment styles could also indirectly predict borderline personality disorder traits through deficiencies in self-compassion (p<0.001). These findings suggest that insecure attachment styles, concerning the significant role of self-compassion deficiency, can be explanatory factors for borderline personality disorder traits. Therefore, paying attention to these factors in their interactions is essential.
