This study aimed to determine the relationship between experiential avoidance and death anxiety, with the mediating role of meaning in life in elderly people living in nursing homes. The present descriptive-correlational study was conducted using structural equation modeling. The statistical population of this study was elderly people living in nursing homes in Rasht in 2024. 200 of them participated in this study using convenience sampling and responded to the Acceptance and Action Questionnaire (AAQ-II; Bond et al., 2007), the Death Anxiety Scale (DAS; Templer et al., 1971), and the Meaning of Life Questionnaire (MLQ; Steger et al., 2011). The data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. The findings showed that the proposed model had a good fit. Another finding showed that the direct effects of experiential avoidance and meaning in life on death anxiety were significant; also, the direct effect of experiential avoidance on meaning in life was significant (P<0.05); Also, the results of the bootstrap test showed that meaning in life had a mediating role in the relationship between experiential avoidance and death anxiety (P<0.05). The findings of this study indicate that experiential avoidance has a direct effect on death anxiety in the elderly through the mediating role of meaning in life.
