Abstract: (1485 Views)
The purpose of this study was to investigate the psychometric properties of the Compassionate and Self-image Goals Scale in friendship. In a descriptive and validation study, 216 and 226 graduate students from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad in the first semester of the 2024-2025 academic year were selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected using the Compassionate and Self-image Goals Scale (CSGS) by Crocker & Canevello (2008), Basic Need Satisfaction in Relationships (BNS-RS) by La Guardia et al. (2002), State Level Subjective Vitality Scale (SVS-SL) by Ryan and Frederick (1997), and the Perceived Relationship Quality Component (PRQC) by Fletcher et al. (2000). Internal consistency, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis and criterion validity were analyzed. The results showed that the scale had two-factor structure with the variance explained 58.72%. The confirmatory factor analysis was confirmed. The scale had good construction reliability. Cronbach's alpha coefficients ranged from 0.82 to 0.87 and split-half coefficients ranged from 0.79 to 0.86. Test-retest coefficients after two weeks were 0.64 for compassionate goals and 0.60 for self-image goals. There was a positive and significant correlation between compassionate goals and psychological needs in relationships, life vitality, and relationship quality components (P< 0.05). However, self-image goals had a negative relationship with these variables. Compassionate goals were positive predictors and self-image goals were negative predictors of mental vitality, satisfaction, commitment, intimacy, and trust in friendships. Consequently, it seems that the Compassionate and Self-image Goals Scale has a good reliability and validity in students.
