Abstract: (7 Views)
The present study aimed to investigate the mediating roles of self-critical rumination and fear of missing out (FoMO) in the relationship between Instagram addiction and sleep quality among university students. This descriptive-correlational study was conducted using structural equation modeling. The statistical population consisted of students from Islamic Azad University Rasht branch in 2024, from which 221 participants were selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected using the Instagram Addiction Scale (IAS; Salehi et al., 2022), the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI; Buysse et al, 1989), the Self-Critical Rumination Scale (SCRS; Smart et al., 2016), and the Fear of Missing Out Scale (FoMo; Przybylski et al, 2013). Data were analyzed using SPSS and AMOS software through structural equation modeling. The findings indicated that the proposed model had a good fit. The direct effects of Instagram addiction, self-critical rumination, and FoMO on sleep quality were significant, and Instagram addiction had significant direct effects on both self-critical rumination and FoMO (P < .05). Bootstrap results further showed that self-critical rumination and FoMO significantly mediated the association between Instagram addiction and sleep quality (P < .05). Therefore, it can be concluded that Instagram addiction, by increasing self-critical rumination and intensifying fear of missing out, negatively impacts students' sleep quality.
