Abstract: (220 Views)
The purpose of this study was to determine the mediating role of marital commitment in the relationship between forgiveness and marital happiness in married people. This descriptive-correlational research was of the structural equation modeling type. The statistical population of this study was married people in Ahvaz in 2024. 270 people participated in an online survey using a convenience sampling method and responded to the Dimensions of Commitment Inventory (DCI; Adams & Jones, 1997), the Interpersonal Forgiveness Inventory (IFI; Ehteshamzadeh et al., 2019), and the Marital Happiness Scale (MHS; Azrin et al., 1973). The data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. The results showed that the proposed model had a good fit. The results of the coefficients of direct relationships indicated that forgiveness and marital commitment had a direct and significant relationship with marital happiness; additionally, forgiveness had a direct relationship with marital commitment (P<0.05). Also, the results revealed that marital commitment played a mediating role between forgiveness and marital happiness (P<0.05). In summary, it can be concluded that forgiveness has a direct relationship with the marital happiness of married individuals, with marital commitment acting as a mediator.
