Abstract: (127 Views)
The present study has identified the factors affecting the occurrence of high-risk marriages from the perspective of family counselors using a qualitative approach. The research population consisted of active family counselors in Tehran and Mashhad in 1402. Using purposive sampling, 21 counselors with at least five years of experience and a PhD in counseling were selected. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s thematic analysis method. The findings revealed three main themes: intrapersonal factors (psychological trauma, psychological disorders, personality incompatibility, physical-biological issues, one-dimensional partner selection, and economic immaturity) , interpersonal factors (conflict with the family of origin, dysfunctional spousal interaction, lack of differentiation, lack of commitment, and harmful behaviors), and extrapersonal factors (convenience-based marriage, insufficient awareness, lack of compatibility, and unpreparedness for marriage). The results indicate that high-risk marriages are influenced by personal, interactional, and environmental factors, highlighting the necessity of addressing these factors in premarital counseling and couple therapy.
