Abstract: (10 Views)
The present study aimed to compare the effectiveness of Positive Psychotherapy and Cognitive-Analytical Therapy on alexithymia and anxiety sensitivity in patients with hypertension. This semi-experimental study employed a pretest-posttest control group design with a three-month follow-up. The study population included individuals diagnosed with hypertension at Laleh Hospital in Tehran during the first half of 2022. Using purposive sampling, 45 participants were selected and randomly assigned to three groups of 15 (two experimental groups and one control group). The research instruments included the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS; Bagby, 1994) and the Anxiety Sensitivity Index (ASI; Reiss, 1986). After the pretest, both experimental groups received group-based interventions for 8 weekly sessions. Data were analyzed using Repeated Measures ANOVA and a Bonferroni post hoc test. The group effect, time effect, and time×group effect were significant for alexithymia (p<0.01) and anxiety sensitivity (p<0.01). Also, the mean difference between pre-test and post-test and follow-up was significant (p<0.001), but the mean difference between post-test and follow-up was not significant (p>0.05). The mean difference between experimental groups was not significant in alexithymia and anxiety sensitivity (p>0.05). It can be concluded that both positive psychotherapy and cognitive-analytic therapy are effective in improving alexithymia and anxiety sensitivity in patients with hypertension; however, there is no significant difference between them in terms of effectiveness.
