Abstract: (101 Views)
The present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of emotion-focused therapy on anxiety and psychological well-being of patients with irritable bowel syndrome. The present study was a quasi-experimental study with a pre-test-post-test design and a control group with a three-month follow-up period. The population of this study included patients with irritable bowel syndrome referred to the Gastroenterology and Liver Research and Treatment Center in Shiraz in 2023, from which 22 patients were selected by purposive sampling and randomly assigned to two groups. The experimental group members were treated individually. The Cattell Anxiety Scale (CAS; Cattell, 1957) and the Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWB; Ryff & Keyes, 1995) were used to collect data. Data analysis was performed using repeated measures analysis of variance. The findings showed that there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test of anxiety and psychological well-being in the experimental group (P<0.05), and there was also no significant difference between the post-test and follow-up mean in the experimental group, and the results were maintained in the follow-up period (P<0.05). Overall, it can be concluded that emotion-focused therapy is an effective intervention in reducing anxiety and increasing psychological well-being in patients with irritable bowel syndrome.
