Abstract:   (169 Views)
The purpose of the present study was to determine the relationship between sense of coherence and meaning-making with resilience, with the mediating role of emotion regulation strategies in cancer patients. The method of this study was descriptive-correlational SEM. The statistical population consisted of humans with various types of cancer at the Cancer Institute of Imam Khomeini Hospital Complex in Tehran during 2024. A total of 342 participants were selected through convenience sampling and responded to the Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC 10; Campbell‐Sills & Stein, 2007), the Sense of Coherence Scale (SOC; Antonovsky, 1993), the Perceived Ability to Cope with Trauma Scale (PACT; Bonanno et al., 2011), Core Beliefs Inventory (CBI, Cann et al., 2010) and the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ; Garnefski & Kraaij, 2006). Data were analyzed using SEM.. The results indicated that the proposed model demonstrated satisfactory fit indices. The results showed that Sense of coherence, meaning-making and emotion regulation strategies have a direct and significant effect on resilience. Also, both sense of coherence and meaning-making had significant direct effects on emotion regulation strategies (p<0.01). The results of the bootstrap test for indirect pathways showed that emotion regulation strategies play a mediating role in the relationship between sense of coherence and meaning-making with resilience (p<0.01). These findings suggest that resilience in cancer humans is affected not only by a direct contribution of sense of coherence and meaning-making, but also indirectly through the mediating influence of emotion regulation strategies.
