The aim of present research was to determine the effectiveness of compassion focused therapy on shame and self-criticism in perfectionist students. The research method was a semi-experimental pre-test-post-test design with a control group and two-month follow-up. The statistical population included the students of Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences in the academic year 2022-2023. The research sample consisted of 30 of these people who were selected by purposeful sampling and were randomly assigned into two experimental and control groups. The tools of this research included The revised almost perfect scale (RAPS, 2001) and Thompson and Zaroff's Levels of Self Criticism Scale (LOSC, 2004) and Gross External Shame Scale(ESS, 1994) . The experimental group received 8 sessions of Compassion Focused Therapy treatments. Analysis of variance with repeated measurements was used to analyze the data. The findings of the research showed that there was a significant difference between the pre-test, post-test, and follow-up mean of Shame and Self-Criticism in both experimental and control groups(P<0.001). In addition, the results showed that this intervention could maintain its effect over time (P<0.001). The results indicated a significant effect of compassion-focused therapy in reducing shame and self-criticism in perfectionistic students.
