This research aimed to comparing the effectiveness of compassion-focused therapy and dialectical behavior therapy on adaptive and maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies in adolescents with obesity. The present research method was the type of quasi-experimental study with pre-test, post-test design and the control group with a two-month follow-up period. The population of this research included female students with with obesity in Rasht in the year 2025, that among them 55 students selected by purposive sampling, and randomly assigned to three groups: compassion therapy (n=17), dialectical behavior therapy (n=18), and control group (n=20). Research questionnaire was the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (Garnefski & Kraaij, 2006) (CERQ). Repeated measures analysis of variance was used to analyze the data. The results showed that the pre-test scores of adaptive and maladaptive strategies of cognitive emotion regulation had a significant difference with the post-test and follow-up scores (P>0.05). Also, the results indicated that there was a significant difference between the two treatments over time (P>0.05), which shows the greater effectiveness of dialectical behavior therapy than compassion-focused therapy. Therefore, it can be concluded that both treatments are effective as a stable intervention on cognitive emotion regulation strategies in adolescents with obesity, but dialectical behavior therapy is more effective.
