Abstract: (244 Views)
This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of Adlerian couple therapy and systemic integrative couple therapy on cognitive flexibility, marital adjustment, and marital quality in couples experiencing marital conflict. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest and a control group, along with a three-month follow-up. The statistical population consisted of couples with marital conflict who referred to the Experience House couple therapy centers in Tehran in 2025. Using the convenience sampling method, 30 couples were selected and randomly assigned to three groups of 10 couples each (two experimental groups and one control group). The Cognitive Flexibility Inventory (CFI, Dennis & VanderWal, 2010), Dyadic Adjustment Scale (DAS, Spanier, 1976), Revised Dyadic Adjustment Scale (RDAS, Busby et al., 1995), a 10-session Adlerian couple therapy protocol (one 90-minute session per week), and an 8-session systemic integrative couple therapy protocol (one 90-minute session per week) were used for data collection and intervention. The data were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) test. The findings of the study indicated that the pretest scores of cognitive flexibility, adaptability, and marital relationship quality differed significantly from the posttest and follow-up scores (p < 0.001). Furthermore, the systemic integrative approach was more effective in improving marital relationship quality compared to Adlerian couples therapy (p < 0.001). Therefore, it can be concluded that both treatments are effective as sustainable interventions in cognitive flexibility, adaptability, and the quality of marital relationships, and that the integrative systemic approach has greater efficacy in enhancing the quality of marital relationships.
