Abstract:   (132 Views)
The aim of the present study was to compare the effectiveness of compassion-focused group therapy and emotion-focused group therapy on self-criticism in mothers of children with physical disabilities. This was a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest design and a control group with a two-month follow-up. The statistical population was mothers with physically disabled children who referred to counseling centers and psychological welfare services in Izeh city during the first six months of 2024. In the present study, a sample of 36 people was selected using the convenience sampling method and then randomly assigned to three groups of 12 people. Thompson and Zuroff's Levels of Self-Criticism Scale (LOSC, 2004) was used to collect data. Each of the intervention groups underwent group therapy for 8 sessions of 90 minutes. Data analysis was performed using repeated measures analysis of variance. The findings showed that the self-criticism score in the intervention groups compared to the control group decreased significantly at the 0.05 level of error from pre-test to post-test and follow-up; however, no significant difference was observed between the two treatment groups in the post-test and follow-up scores (P<0.05). The findings of this study showed that both treatments were effective in reducing self-criticism in mothers of children with physical disabilities.
