Abstract:   (427 Views)
This study aimed to investigate the role of defense styles in High-Risk behaviors among orphaned adolescents, with perceived social support as a mediator. The descriptive-correlational research method was path analysis. The statistical population consists of all orphaned adolescents (boys and girls) aged 13 to 18 residing in welfare centers under the supervision of the Welfare Organization in Mashhad in the first half of 2024. Therefore, using convenience sampling, 300 individuals were selected. The research instruments include the Iranian Adolescent Risk-Taking Scale (IARS, Zadeh-Mohammadi et al., 2011), the Andrews Defense Style Questionnaire (DSQ-40, Andrews et al., 1993), and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS, Zimet et al., 1993). Pearson correlation tests and path analysis were used to analyze the data. The findings showed that the research model was a good fit. Defense styles had a positive and significant effect on adolescents’ high-risk behaviors (P<0/05). Also, defense styles had an indirect and significant effect on high-risk behaviors through perceived social support (P<0/05). Consequently, perceived social support had a mediating role in the relationship between defense styles and high-risk behaviors of the orphaned adolescents.
