Abstract:   (12 Views)
The present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of group Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) on body dysmorphic preoccupation and self-efficacy in overweight adolescents. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test–post-test control group. The statistical population consisted of overweight adolescents aged 14 to 18 years who were referred to treatment centers in Tabriz during 2023–2024. From this population, 30 participants were selected using purposive sampling and were randomly assigned to an experimental group and a control group. Data were collected using the Body Dysmorphic Preoccupation Questionnaire (PWBD; Rabiei et al., 2011) and the Self-Efficacy Questionnaire (SEQ; Sherer et al., 1982). The experimental group received the intervention in eight weekly group sessions, while the control group received no intervention. Data analysis was conducted using multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA). The findings indicated that, after controlling for pre-test effects, there was a significant difference at the 0.01 level between the experimental and control groups in post-test mean scores of body dysmorphic preoccupation and self-efficacy. Based on these results, group-based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy can be considered an effective psychotherapeutic intervention for reducing body dysmorphic preoccupation and enhancing self-efficacy in overweight adolescents.
