Abstract:   (34 Views)
The present study aimed to determine the mediating role of pain self-efficacy in the relationship between self-compassion and pain catastrophizing in people with rheumatoid arthritis. The present descriptive-correlational study was of the structural equation modeling type. The statistical population of this study was people with rheumatoid arthritis who referred to the Poursina Medical and Educational Center in the second half of 2025. 240 of them participated in this study using the convenience sampling method. The Pain Self-Efficacy Questionnaire (PSEQ; Dubé et al., 2023), the Self-Compassion Scale-Short Form (SCS-SF; Raes et al., 2011), and the Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS; Sullivan et al., 1995) were used to collect data. Data analysis was performed using the structural equation modeling method. The findings showed that the proposed model had a favorable fit. The findings also showed that self-compassion and pain self-efficacy were negatively related to pain catastrophizing (P<0.05); self-compassion also had a positive and significant relationship with pain self-efficacy (P<0.05). Bootstrap results showed that pain self-efficacy played a mediating role in the relationship between self-compassion and pain catastrophizing (P<0.05). In summary, it can be concluded that self-compassion directly and through the mediation of pain self-efficacy has an effect on pain catastrophizing in people with rheumatoid arthritis.
