The present study aimed to determine the mediating role of pain intensity in the relationship between self-critical rumination and sleep quality in people with migraine. The present study was a descriptive-correlational study using structural equation modeling. The statistical population included people who had referred to the Poursina Hospital Medical and Educational Center in Rasht due to migraine in the second half of 2025. 220 people participated in the study using convenience sampling. The Chronic Pain Grade Scale (CPGS; Von Korff et al., 1992), the Self-Critical Rumination Scale (SCRS; Smart et al., 2016), and the Pitsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI; Buysse et al., 1989) were used to collect data. Data analysis was performed using structural equation modeling. The fit indices indicated that the proposed model had a favorable fit. The findings showed that self-critical rumination and pain severity were positively and directly related to sleep quality; self-critical rumination also had a positive and significant relationship with pain severity (P<0.05). The result of the bootstrap test showed that pain severity played a mediating role in the relationship between self-critical rumination and sleep quality (P<0.05). The findings of this study indicate that self-critical rumination directly and through the mediation of pain severity has an effect on sleep quality in people with migraine. It worked.
