Abstract: (13 Views)
The present study aimed to compare the effectiveness of affective-reconstructive couple therapy and encouragement couple therapy on cognitive emotion regulation in women victims of infidelity. A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design with a two-month follow-up was used. The population consisted of women who had experienced marital infidelity and referred to counseling centers in Nourabad Mamasani in 2025. A sample of 45 women was selected via convenience sampling and randomly assigned to three groups of 15 (two experimental groups and one control group). instruments included the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ; Garnefski & Kraaij, 2006), along with an 8-session protocol of couples therapy based on emotional reconstruction and an 8-session protocol of couples therapy based on encouragement for intervention. Data were analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA and Bonferroni post-hoc test. Findings indicated a significant difference in cognitive emotion regulation strategies from pre-test to post-test and follow-up in the experimental groups (p < 0.01). Furthermore, no significant differences were found between the two experimental groups in components such as self-blame, acceptance, positive refocusing, positive reappraisal, and putting into perspective (p > 0.05). However, significant differences were observed in rumination, refocus on planning, catastrophizing, and blaming others (p < 0.01), indicating that encouragement therapy was significantly more effective on these variables. It can be concluded that both interventions are effective in improving cognitive emotion regulation in women victims of marital infidelity, but couples therapy based on encouragement has greater effectiveness.
