Abstract: (2 Views)
The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy and schema therapy on migraine symptoms. The research method was quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest control group design and a six-month follow-up period. The statistical population of this study consisted of students from universities in Tabriz who, during the academic year 2025-2026, had visited neurology clinics due to migraine headaches. After initial screening, 45 students were selected through purposive sampling and randomly assigned to two experimental groups and one control group (15 people per group). Participants in the mindfulness-based cognitive therapy group underwent intervention in 8 sessions of 60 minutes, and the schema therapy group in 10 sessions of 60 minutes. The instrument used was the Ahvaz Migraine Headache Questionnaire (AMQ) by Najarian (1997). Data were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance and Bonferroni post-hoc test. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the mean pretest and posttest scores of migraine symptom severity in the two experimental groups and the control group (p < .01). However, there was no significant difference between posttest and follow-up (p > .05), and the results were maintained during the follow-up period. Also, no significant difference was observed between the two experimental groups (p > .05). Therefore, given their equal effectiveness, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, with its shorter treatment duration, can be considered a more efficient and cost-effective option than schema therapy in the clinical management of migraine.
