Abstract:   (10 Views)
The present study aimed to determine the mediating role of empathy in the relationship between parenting style and delinquent behaviors in adolescents. The present descriptive-correlational study was of the structural equation modeling type. The statistical population of this study was high school students in Rasht in 2025. 240 people participated in an online survey using the accessible method. To collect data, the Perceptions of Parents Scales (POPS; Grolnick et al., 1997), the Empathy Quotient Scale (EQ; Baron-Cohen & Wheelwright, 2004), and the Attitude to Delinquent Behavior Questionnaire (ADBQ; Fazli, 2010) were used. Data analysis was performed using the structural equation modeling method. The findings showed that the proposed model had a favorable fit. The findings showed that parenting and empathy were negatively related to delinquent behaviors; In addition, parenting had a positive and significant direct relationship with empathy (P<0.05). The results of the bootstrap test showed that empathy had a negative and significant mediating role between parenting and delinquent behaviors (P<0.05). Overall, it can be concluded that parenting with involvement, warmth, and autonomy directly and indirectly reduces delinquent behavior in adolescents through increased empathy.
