Abstract: (6 Views)
The present study aimed to compare the effectiveness of emotionally focused couple therapy and object relations couple therapy on emotional expressiveness and action flexibility among women affected by marital infidelity. The study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group and a two-month follow-up period. The statistical population consisted of women affected by infidelity who referred to counseling and psychological centers in northern Tehran in 2024. A total of 60 participants were selected through purposive sampling and randomly assigned to two experimental groups and one control group (n=20). Participants in the experimental groups received eight intervention sessions. Research instruments included the Emotional Expressiveness Questionnaire (EEQ, 1990) and the Cognitive Flexibility Inventory (CFI, 2010). Data were analyzed using mixed-design analysis of variance. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the pre-test scores of emotional expressiveness and functional flexibility and the post-test and follow-up scores (P<0.05). The results also indicated that there was a significant difference between the two treatments over time (P<0.05), indicating that emotion-focused couple therapy was more effective than object-relations-based couple therapy in emotional expressiveness. Accordingly, both emotion-focused and object-relations-based couple therapy approaches were effective in improving emotional expressiveness and functional flexibility in women affected by marital infidelity; however, emotion-focused couple therapy was more effective for emotional expressiveness.
