The present study aimed to determine the mediating role of epistemic mistrust in the relationship between childhood traumatic experiences and interpersonal sensitivity in individuals with borderline personality disorder. The present descriptive-correlational study was conducted using structural equation modeling. The statistical population of the present study was individuals with borderline personality disorder referred to medical centers in Tehran between the spring of 2025 and the fall of 2025. 220 people participated in this study through a purposive sampling method from Iran, Roozbeh, Razi, Del Aram, and Iranian psychiatric hospitals. Data collection was conducted using the Trust/Distrust/Epistemic Validity Questionnaire (ETMCQ; Campbell et al., 2021), the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire-Short Form (CTQ-SF; Bernstein et al., 2003), and the Interpersonal Sensitivity Inventory (IPSM; Boyce & Parker, 1989). The data were analyzed using the statistical method of structural equation modeling. The fit indices showed that the final model had a good fit. The findings showed that traumatic childhood experiences and epistemic mistrust were negatively related to interpersonal sensitivity; also, the direct relationship between traumatic childhood experiences and epistemic mistrust was significant (P<0.05). The results of the bootstrap test to examine the mediation effect showed that epistemic mistrust had a significant mediating role between childhood traumatic experiences and interpersonal sensitivity (P<0.05). The findings of this study indicated that traumatic childhood experiences were directly related to interpersonal sensitivity in individuals with borderline personality disorder through epistemic mistrust.
