Abstract: (913 Views)
The present study was conducted with the aim of predicting the marital adjustment of couples based on basic psychological needs and narcissism. The method of the current research was a correlational description. The statistical population included all married students of the Azad University of Electronics Department and Tehran Center Department in the academic year 2021-2022. For this purpose, 223 students were selected by the available sampling method and responded to Spanier's dyadic adjustment scale (DAS) (1976), Desi and Ryan's basic psychological needs scale (BPNS) (2001), and narcissistic personality scale (NPS) Raskin ana Tery (1988). The data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation coefficient and simultaneous regression. The results showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between autonomy, communication, competence, and marital compatibility of couples (p<0.05), but there is no significant relationship between narcissism and marital compatibility (p>0.05). Also, the results of regression analysis showed that basic psychological needs explain about 0.22% of the variance of the dependent variable. Based on the findings, it can be said that basic psychological needs, especially autonomy, play an essential role in the marital compatibility of couples.
