The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of happiness-based cognitive therapy combined with muscle relaxation on the quality of life and symptoms of multiple sclerosis patients. The research method was semi-experimental with a pre-test-post-test design and a control group. The statistical population included all female patients with MS who were hospitalized or had severe movement problems in Ahvaz City, and who visited medical centers in the first half of 2022. Among these, 30 people were selected by purposeful sampling and randomly placed in the experimental and control groups (15 people in each group). Cognitive therapy based on happiness, combined with muscle relaxation, was performed in 6 sessions of 2 to 2.5 hours in the experimental group. Data were collected using the MS Quality of Life Questionnaire (MSIS-29) and Kurtzek's Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) (1983). The data were analyzed using a multivariate analysis of covariance test. The results showed that by controlling the effect of the pre-test, there is a significant difference between the average of the post-test in the quality of life and symptoms of patients with multiple sclerosis syndrome at the level of 0.05. From the above findings, it can be concluded that cognitive therapy based on happiness combined with muscle relaxation was effective in improving the quality of life and symptoms of patients with multiple sclerosis syndrome.
