Family is the first and most important institution that the child is born and bred in. So for the healthy and natural development of children and their mental health, its essential to children grows up in a normal and healthy family that provides a good platform that meet the developmental needs of them. Whatever that causes dysfunctions in family may predispose for damage in training of children and lead to negative consequences for them. Parental addiction is one of the problems that put children at risk and threatens their mental health. thus in this brief review, we intend to investigate the failures of parenting that there is often in families with substance abuse problems, as well as the negative consequences that children of alcoholic parents may face with, including academic performance problems, externalizing and internalizing disorders and emotional and social performance.
