Abstract: (89 Views)
The present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of competent parenting training based on the schema therapy approach on the psychological well-being of mothers with children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and on reducing the severity of autism symptoms in children. The research followed a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test, post-test, and control group framework. The study population consisted of mothers of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder who attended the Atefeh Educational and Rehabilitation Center in Rafsanjan in 2023. From this population, 30 mothers were purposefully selected as participants and randomly assigned to an experimental group (15 participants) and a control group (15 participants). The experimental group received competent parenting training based on the schema therapy approach in eight weekly sessions of 45 minutes each. The research instruments included the Ryff Psychological Well-being Questionnaire (PWB, 1989) and the Gilliam Autism Rating Scale (GARS, 1994). The data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA). The findings indicated a significant difference in the post-test autism symptoms of children between the two groups at the 0.01 level, while no significant difference was observed in the psychological well-being of mothers between the groups. In conclusion, competent parenting training with a schema therapy approach can assist parents in adopting more effective parenting strategies to reduce autism symptoms in their children.
