The aim of the present study was to compare the effectiveness of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing and motivational interviewing on the Pathological Symptoms of divorced women. The research method was semi-experimental with a pre-test-post-test design and a control group. The research instrument included the psychological symptom checklist (SCL-90-R) by Derogatis et al. (1973). each of the experimental groups received 8 2-hour sessions. The results of multivariate analysis of covariance showed that, after controlling for the pretest effect, there was a significant difference between the mean of anxiety, aggression, phobia, paranoid thoughts, psychosis, and sensitivity in the interactions of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy and between the mean of aggression, paranoid thoughts, and sensitivity in the interactions of the motivational interviewing group and the control group (P<0.05), but no significant difference was observed at the 0.05 level for depressive symptoms, somatic complaints, and obsessions and compulsions. In addition, there was no significant difference between the effectiveness of the two interventions (P<0.05). The results showed that eye movement desensitization and reprocessing and motivational interviewing are effective interventions to be used by counselors and psychologists to improve the Pathological Symptoms of divorced women.
