The present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy on fear of compassion, distress tolerance, and feelings of failure in mothers of autistic children. The research method was a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test design with a control group. The statistical population of the study consisted of all mothers of autistic children referring to medical and counseling centers in Qom in 1402, from which 40 people were selected conveniently and randomly placed in two groups of 20 people, experimental and control. Data collection tools included the Gilbert et al. Fear of Compassion Scale (2011, FCS), the Simmons and Gaher Distress Tolerance Scale (2005, DTS), and the Gilbert et al. Frustration Scale (1998, FFS). The experimental group received mindfulness-based cognitive therapy in eight sessions, one session per week for 90 minutes. Multivariate analysis of covariance was used to analyze the data. The results showed that, after controlling for the pre-test effect, there was a significant difference between the post-test of the experimental and control groups in fear of compassion, distress tolerance, and feelings of failure of mothers of autistic children (p<0.05). From the above findings, it can be concluded that mindfulness-based cognitive therapy affected fear of compassion, distress tolerance, and feelings of failure in mothers of autistic children in the experimental group.
