Abstract: (24 Views)
The purpose of this study was to investigate the moderating role of spousal social support in the relationship between parenting stress and parenting competence. The research method was descriptive-correlational. The research population consisted of mothers with children up to 5 years old living in Tehran and Karaj city in 1403, from whom 227 individual were selected as a sample through convenience sampling. Data were collected using the Parenting Stress Index- Short Form (PSI-SF; Abidin, 1995), the Parenting Sense of Competence questionnaire (PSOC; Gibaud et al., 1978), and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS; Zimet et al., 1988). The research data were analyzed using the Pearson correlation coefficient and hierarchical regression methods. The findings showed that there was a negative and significant relationship between parenting stress and feelings of parenting competence (r=-0.48, P<0.01) and spousal social support (r=-0.24, P<0.01), and a positive and significant relationship between parenting competence and spousal social support (r=0.68, P<0.01). Also, spousal social support plays a moderating role in the relationship between parenting stress and parenting competence (p<0.01). It can be concluded that the spousal social support can reduce the negative impact of parenting stress on parenting competence.
