Abstract: (18 Views)
The present study aimed to investigate the mediating role of family functioning in the relationship between cognitive flexibility and self-worth with marital satisfaction in parents of children with autism spectrum disorder. The present study was a descriptive-correlational study using structural equation modeling. The statistical population of the study included parents of children with autism spectrum disorder in the centers under the supervision of the Tehran Province Welfare Department in 2024, and 200 parents were selected as samples using the available sampling method. Data were collected using Dennis & Vander Wal's Cognitive Flexibility Questionnaire (CFI, 2010), Dousti & Hosseininia's Self-Worth Questionnaire (SWQ, 2020), Hudson's Index of Marital Satisfaction (IMS, 1992), and Epstein et al.'s Family Assessment Device (FAD-60, 1983). The data obtained were analyzed through structural equation modeling. The results showed that the modified model had a good fit. Accordingly, cognitive flexibility, self-worth, and resilience have a direct and significant effect on marital satisfaction in parents (P<0.01). Also, cognitive flexibility and self-worth have an indirect and significant effect on marital satisfaction in parents through the mediation of family functioning (P<0.01). Therefore, by implementing clinical interventions to increase cognitive flexibility and self-worth and also improve family functioning, marital satisfaction can be increased in parents with a child with autism spectrum disorder.
