Abstract: (42 Views)
The present study aimed to compare the effectiveness of short-term psychodynamic therapy and emotion-focused therapy on reflective functioning in individuals with dependent personality disorder. The research method was a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test, post-test with a control group, and a three-month follow-up. The statistical population included individuals with dependent personality disorder referring to clinics and psychological centers in District 5 of Tehran in 2024, of which 51 individuals were selected using the available sampling method and randomly assigned to three groups (17 individuals in each group). The research instruments included the reflective functioning questionnaire (RFQ) by Fonagy et al. (2016) and the dependent personality questionnaire (DPQ) by Tyrer et al. (2004). Short-term psychodynamic sessions were conducted in 11 2-hour sessions, and emotion-focused therapy in 10 approximately 2-hour sessions. For data analysis, repeated measures analysis of variance and Bonferroni post hoc test were used. The results showed that the pre-test scores of certainty and uncertainty of reflective capacity were significantly different from the post-test and follow-up scores (P<0.05). The results also indicated the significance of the effect of time on the uncertainty component for both experimental groups and emotion-focused therapy for the certainty component (P<0.05), which indicates the effectiveness of emotion-focused therapy on both components. The results indicate the effectiveness of both treatments for improving the uncertainty component and the greater effectiveness of emotion-focused therapy for improving the certainty component, and its use is preferred over short-term psychodynamic therapy.
