The present study was conducted in order to determine the mediating role of Instagram addiction in the relationship between fear of missing out and academic burnout in students. The method of this research was a descriptive-correlation type of structural equation modeling, which was carried out in the statistical population of students of Islamic Azad University, Lahijan branch, in 2022. 260 people from this statistical population were selected as a sample in this study using the available sampling method, and the Instagram Addiction Scale (IAS, Kircaburun & Griffiths, 2018), Fear of Missing out Scale (FoMoS; Wegmann et al., 2017), and Maslach Burnout Inventory- Student Survey (MBI-SS; Schaufeli et al., 2002). Data analysis was done by the structural equation modeling method. The results showed that the proposed model has a good fit. The results showed that the fear of missing out had a direct effect on academic burnout and Instagram addiction; Also, Instagram addiction had a direct effect on academic burnout (P<0.05). The results of the bootstrap test showed that Instagram addiction played a mediating role in the relationship between fear of missing out and academic burnout (P<0.05). From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the fear of missing out is an incompatible factor that can directly increase academic burnout in students by creating an addiction to Instagram.
