Abstract: (9 Views)
The study aimed to compare the effectiveness of couple therapy based on relation Imago and couple therapy using the Gottman method on ambivalence in expressing emotions in couples with marital conflict. The research method was a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test-post-test design and a control group with a three-month follow-up. The statistical population of the study included couples referred to the Erfan Counseling Center in Tehran in 2024. The sample size included 30 couples (10 couples/20 people in each group) who were selected by an available sampling method and randomly placed in three groups. The Ambivalence in Expressing Emotions Questionnaire (AEQ) by King and Emmons (1990) and the Revised Marital Conflict Questionnaire (MCQ-R) by Sanai (2008) were the research instruments. The Imago group received 8 90-minute sessions, and the Gottman group received 9 90-minute sessions of intervention. The results of repeated measures analysis of variance showed that the mean difference between the pre-test and post-test of both components of ambivalence in expressing emotion was significant (P<0.01). No significant difference was observed between the post-test and follow-up of expressing entitlement (as opposed to positive emotion) (P<0.05). The difference between the experimental and control groups was significant (P<0.05), and in expressing entitlement, the Imago group achieved a lower mean compared to the Gottman group (P<0.05). Both research interventions are likely to be effective treatments for improving ambivalence in expressing emotion in couples, but for expressing entitlement, relational Imago relationship treatment is more effective.
